They headed directly to San Diego, California, where Marriner was called to active duty in the U.S. When Marriner returned, she married the love of her life on June 13, 1952, in the LDS Logan Temple. They were engaged two weeks later as he was heading to basic training. Lois graduated from North Cache High School in 1950 and attended Utah State University until 1952 when she met Marriner C. She was taught to be honest, loyal, responsible, self-reliant, and hard-working. She did, however, prosper from the love and examples set by her parents, teachers, and other mentors who modeled a resilient life. The country was deep in the Great Depression at that time and Lois, being the seventh of nine children, grew up without money or luxuries. Lois was a Leap Year baby, born at home on February 29, 1932, in Smithfield, Utah, to Allan and Maggie Erickson. Her belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ gave her comfort as she passed from this world on February 20, 2021, to join loved ones that have passed before. She served in the Relief Society, Young Women’s, Primary, Scouting and Music Areas. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After retiring, she volunteered at Lakeside Elementary teaching ukuleles, loom knitting and reading for eight years. She retired after 32 years of teaching Third Graders.

Metta taught at Whittier Elementary and Riverside Elementary in Cache Valley and West Point Elementary. If you were lucky enough to have her as a third-grade teacher, you probably are still singing the songs you sang in her classroom. She played the piano, organ, and ukulele. She was a ward organist from age 14 to her death. To say that Metta had a love for music doesn’t even begin to describe the passion she had for music. Grandchildren: Jared, Jacob, Rachel, Joshua, William, Logan and Andrew. If you knew Metta, you knew she was a proud Grandma. They had four children: Kent (Rochelle), James, Gaylene, and David (Jane).

She graduated from North Cache High School and Utah State University with a Bachelor’s and Masters of Education. She was her father’s secretary as a teenager but did end up with several scars from filleting fish. She was raised in Smithfield, Utah on a trout and mink farm. Her siblings: Thad (Kathy) Erickson, Lynda (David) West, Bona Jo Richards (deceased) Sue Ann Armstrong, and Zane Erickson (deceased). 22, 1942 in Logan, Utah to Lynn and Farris Nielsen Erickson.
